The US Department of Homeland Security is looking for several individuals to join a new cybersecurity team with a variety of skillsets and experience ranging from scripters/penetration testers/system administrators to analysts/strategists.  The supervisor GS14 position is to lead a team of folks who are focused on identifying key security metrics, building our continuous monitoring program, using the results to incentivize security improvements, and creating dashboards for all levels of leadership. A large, NY based  multi channel marketing company is  looking to enhance data security processes and procedures. We are looking to bring in one/two temporary roles (one of which may lead to a long term employment). The first is someone who can help establish policy,  procedures  and best practices. The other is an actual Senior application security engineer, who can actually dive in and do the application assessments.

The overall objective is to: Conduct a Network Security Assessment reviewing our organization's network, this includes both external and internal networks. Conduct an Application Security Assessment reviewing core internally developed applications. This will include applications developed in Java, PHP, dot Net, Pearl and Flash. The review should produce a list of identified vulnerabilities and level of risk associated. These finding should be discussed with lead developers to identify a remedy. Data/Privacy compliance for both internal and externally accessible systems, this should include areas of sensitive data, focusing on how the data is captured, stored and transferred.  (note this position does not involve or require PCI compliance).

The above are high-level areas to focus as an initial start, with the below objectives:

  • To establish current exposures in all areas listed above

  • Recommendations on resolution to identified exposures

  • To help establish guidelines policies around data, privacy, application, infrastructure and compliance

  • Make recommendations on a organizational structure that will support the business ensuring the established guidelines are enforced and adhered to.
